Day of Service Creates Native Garden for Nature Center

It might seem like the result of a simple volunteer day. But the new native garden at the Creek Bend Nature Center, in Kane County’s LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, was the result of a special collaborative effort spearheaded by the Chicago Wilderness Corporate Council.

WRD had donated garden design services that resulted in the planting plan for the new garden. When it came time for installation in a Day of Service, more donations and Corporate Council partners were ready.

Midwest Groundcovers and Midwest Trading donated plants and mulch. Fifty employees from Clarke installed more than 1,000 native plants. And the Conservation Foundation was on hand to award the Forest Preserve District of Kane County a Conservation@Work certification and sign for the new garden.

Partners: getting it done, making a difference.
