"Fish Hotel" Wins Statewide Award

Things to eat. Lush decor. Comfortable accommodations. By all indications, guests of WRD's Fish Hotel, along the Chicago River in downtown Chicago, are pleased with how the project turned out. So is the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association, which has awarded WRD a 2009 Gold Excellence in Landscaping award for the innovative habitat.

 

The project is a prototype for other such floating gardens along the Chicago River and elsewhere. It won in the category of ecological planting for its creative, budget-conscious use of native plants to provide sustenance and shelter for fish and other aquatic animals. Sustainability drove the design, which included locally sourced plants, and recycled, biodegradable and energy-efficient materials.
