Edible Schoolyard is Dedicated

The mayor was there. The superintendent of schools was there. And three hundred K-5th graders were there. The dedication of the edible schoolyard at Geneva’s Western Avenue School that took place recently was definitely a celebration – one that owed much to WRD’s Jay Womack.

Jay donated the garden’s design, which not only gave form to the vision of the school’s Get Up & Grow Committee, but gave the committee a valuable fund-raising tool. Once work on the garden began, Jay recruited other organizations to also donate items for the garden, from pavers to prairie plants.

Since the garden’s dedication, more plants have arrived and plans continue. The garden keeps growing.
