The Fish Hotel is in winter storage now, but it’s still making waves. WRD has won a Chicago GreenWorks Award for the sustainably designed floating fish habitat, which provides respite for fish and other aquatic animals in the Chicago River downtown. WRD created the structure for Friends of the Chicago River, which hopes to install others like it along the river.
Easily visible from the Michigan Avenue Bridge, the Fish Hotel is both a destination for fish and a chance to educate passersby about
native ecosystems and habitat restoration.
“Your projects reinforce Chicago’s mission of leading by example,” said Chicago’s Mayor Daley to the GreenWorks winners.
