Along the Chicago River in downtown Chicago can be a tough place for plants. High winds. Deep shade. Shallow soils.
But The John Buck Company, and several nonprofit conservation groups, had a vision for its high-profile site: make the property’s planter beds a model for how native species can complement a more traditional planting scheme.
In less than a month, WRD completed a design, which Greencorps Chicago installed as a training project. Managing the installation, we coordinated a challenging work schedule of midnight to 8 am shifts, to minimize the project’s impact on pedestrians and building operations.
