McCormick Place Bird Sanctuary

Seven of the 10 acres comprising the McCormick Place Bird Sanctuary sit atop a parking garage – a fact that is lost on the tens of thousands of migratory birds that pass through Chicago each spring and fall. Just south of the McCormick Place Lakeside Center on Lake Michigan, the site is an important respite for them.
Where once was gravel and turfgrass now are savanna, woodland and prairie. WRD was key to the transformation, planting native seeds, plugs, trees and shrubs and installing the site’s interpretive trails – all on a fast-track schedule.
More than 200 bird species are expected to frequent the site when it matures.
