North Park Village Nature Center

As visitors approach the North Park Village Nature Center, on Chicago’s Northwest Side, they see a series of native Illinois landscapes – wetland, prairie, savanna and woodland. All on a former asphalt turnaround and entrance drive.
The award-winning transformation was collaborative from start to finish. Nature center staff had input into the final WRD design. We performed the demolition, removal of invasive species, grading and soil importation, and much of the planting. Local volunteers planted the balance, with supervision by WRD and the nature center
The result is a microcosm of the 40-acre natural area behind the nature center, for which we also installed interpretive trails.
