Prairie Crossing, in Grayslake, Illinois, is a nationally recognized conservation community entering its newest phase of development: Station Square. WRD is responsible for the Station Square master plan, including siting, grading, landscape design – from concept to design to contract drawings – and stormwater management.
Phase I features three distinctive condominium buildings, shops and a landscaped square designed to acknowledge the site’s key location – where Prairie Crossing’s rural amenities meet its more urban side. Phase II will incorporate more retail offerings.
Throughout, environmental responsibility has been critical. WRD has planned for all stormwater that flows off of Station Square’s parking lot, for instance, to feed through bioswales into wetlands on site, rather than taxing the local stormwater system.
